Stage 3 – The Proven Benchmark
280 HP on 91-Octane Pump Gas
The Precision EFI Stage 3 is, without question, our most popular performance package for the 998 Turbo platform.
Trusted by hundreds—if not thousands—of riders, the Stage 3 has earned its reputation by delivering the perfect balance of performance, reliability, and everyday rideability. It has become the benchmark package for riders who want serious horsepower without stepping into larger fuel system upgrades.
Producing 280 horsepower on 91-octane pump gas, the Stage 3 adds approximately 80 horsepower over the factory configuration, completely transforming the riding experience while remaining within the capabilities of the factory fuel injectors and MAP sensor.
Maximum Performance From the Factory Fuel System
The Stage 3 was engineered to extract every safe horsepower the stock fuel system can deliver.
By carefully optimizing boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery, and throttle mapping, we've created a calibration that delivers explosive acceleration, instant throttle response, and exceptional drivability without exceeding the limits of the original injectors or MAP sensor.
For many riders, the Stage 3 represents the ideal stopping point before moving to upgraded fuel system components.
Developed Around the Precision EFI Quiet Exhaust
Every Stage 3 calibration has been specifically developed and validated using the Precision EFI Stainless Steel Quiet 2.5" Exhaust.
This exhaust provides the precise amount of backpressure required for the ECU calibration to operate safely and consistently while maintaining excellent trail manners and a refined exhaust note.
Because exhaust flow characteristics directly influence turbocharger performance and engine calibration, Precision EFI guarantees the Stage 3 only when used with our Quiet 2.5" exhaust system.
Free-flow race cans, straight pipes, or unrestricted exhaust systems are not compatible with this calibration and can create unsafe operating conditions that may result in severe engine damage.
Precision EFI Knock Protection
Every Precision EFI ECU calibration includes our proprietary Knock Protection System, continuously monitoring engine knock to maximize performance while protecting your engine under changing fuel quality and operating conditions.
Clutch Calibration Required
To achieve the advertised performance, the Stage 3 requires adjustable primary clutch weights.
Proper clutch calibration is essential to maximize acceleration, maintain belt life, and keep the engine operating in its optimum powerband.
The recommendations below are intended as a starting point for sleds equipped with a stock primary spring and helix in good condition. Final calibration may vary depending on gearing, altitude, snow conditions, rider weight, and other modifications.
Target Engine Speed
Target RPM: 9,000 RPM
Recommended Starting Point
- Dalton DTYA1 Adjustable Ramp Kit (74.5 g)
- Adjust to a total weight of 75.5 grams
- Apply Purple Loctite to all weight screws.
- For most applications, position the adjustment screw with the head flush with the top of the heel pocket.
Clutch Adjustment Procedure
Perform a full-throttle acceleration while applying the throttle progressively to minimize track spin.
Once engine RPM stabilizes, record the maximum RPM.
- If RPM is above 9,000: Add clutch weight.
- If RPM is below 9,000: Remove clutch weight.
Repeat the procedure until the engine consistently reaches 9,000 RPM under full load.
Because snow conditions, temperature, altitude, and track traction all influence clutch performance, minor adjustments may be required throughout the season to maintain the target RPM.
Why Riders Choose Stage 3
There is a reason the Stage 3 has become the go-to package for the 998 Turbo community.
It delivers 280 horsepower on 91-octane pump gas, outstanding reliability, and the maximum safe performance available from the factory fuel system—all while preserving the excellent drivability that makes the 998 Turbo such an incredible trail engine.
If you're looking for the setup that Precision EFI customers trust season after season, Stage 3 is the proven choice.
