PEFI Smart-Shox Control Module Reflash
Transform Your Smart-Shox Suspension
The Precision EFI Smart-Shox Reflash is the result of over two years of development, testing, and real-world validation. Working alongside Accelerated Technologies, a highly respected suspension specialist with decades of experience in motorcycle and snowmobile racing, we completely recalibrated the KYB Smart-Shox system to deliver the suspension performance riders expected from the factory.
Rather than simply making the suspension stiffer or softer, every damping curve was redesigned to improve control, comfort, cornering stability, and rider confidence across real-world trail conditions.
The result is a suspension that reacts faster, maintains better ski contact, uses its travel more effectively, and inspires confidence whether you're cruising groomed trails or charging through rough terrain.
Why Reflash Your Smart-Shox?
The factory Smart-Shox hardware is outstanding. The limitation isn't the suspension itself—it's the factory calibration.
During development, we found that the OEM settings often allowed excessive suspension movement, inconsistent rebound control, and poor chassis balance. These characteristics reduced rider confidence, especially as trail conditions became rougher or riding pace increased.
Our goal was simple:
- Improve comfort without sacrificing control.
- Increase traction in all trail conditions.
- Keep the chassis flatter during acceleration, braking, and cornering.
- Make each riding mode noticeably different and genuinely useful.
The result is a sled that feels more planted, more predictable, and significantly easier to ride quickly.
Comfort Mode
Factory Calibration
The OEM Comfort Mode is heavily biased toward a very soft compression setting combined with excessive front rebound damping.
This causes the front suspension to use a large percentage of its travel almost immediately, making it prone to bottoming even over moderate bumps. Because rebound recovery is too slow after larger impacts, the suspension tends to "pack down," reducing available travel and steering precision.
At the rear, compression damping is extremely light. The suspension rapidly collapses through much of its travel before abruptly stiffening, causing the rider to sink deeply into the seat before being pushed back upward. The result is reduced comfort, diminished control, and an unsettled chassis.
PEFI Comfort Mode
Our Comfort Mode dramatically improves both ride quality and vehicle control.
Front compression and rebound damping have been carefully rebalanced to better absorb trail chatter while preventing excessive dive and bottoming.
Rear rebound has been completely redesigned to better control suspension recovery after large impacts, eliminating the tendency for the sled to "kick" the rider out of the seat.
The result is a plush ride that remains composed over rough trails while maintaining excellent chassis stability and predictable handling.
Sport Mode
Factory Calibration
Despite its name, the factory Sport Mode differs only slightly from Comfort Mode. The damping changes are minimal, leaving many of the same weaknesses present.
Aggressive riders quickly notice excessive chassis movement, front-end dive, and limited improvement in cornering precision.
PEFI Sport Mode
This is the mode most riders will use every day, and we invested countless hours perfecting it.
Compared to our Comfort Mode calibration, Sport Mode features approximately:
- 30% firmer front damping
- 20% firmer rear damping
The sled remains comfortable while providing dramatically improved support during aggressive riding.
Front-end grip is significantly improved, inside ski lift is greatly reduced, and steering becomes much more precise entering and exiting corners.
Rear compression and rebound damping have been carefully matched to maintain chassis balance, allowing the sled to stay flatter through successive bumps while delivering a confident, predictable ride.
Sport+ Mode
Factory Calibration
The factory Sport+ Mode is excessively stiff at the front, making it effective only on exceptionally smooth trails.
As trail conditions deteriorate, the skis struggle to follow the terrain, reducing steering accuracy and front-end grip.
Rear compression damping is reasonably well calibrated, but excessive rebound damping prevents the suspension from extending quickly enough after impacts. The shock remains deep in its travel, reducing available suspension movement and overall control.
PEFI Sport+ Mode
Our Sport+ calibration was designed specifically for riders who demand maximum performance without sacrificing confidence.
Front damping has been optimized to maintain excellent ski contact over rough terrain, delivering sharper steering with none of the harshness associated with the factory calibration.
At the rear, rebound has been completely reworked to complement the progressive characteristics of the rMotion suspension, allowing the skid to stay composed and maintain continuous track contact regardless of trail conditions.
The sled feels flatter, more predictable, and noticeably more connected to the snow, even when ridden aggressively over rough terrain.
Developed with Accelerated Technologies
Every damping curve in the PEFI Smart-Shox Reflash was developed in collaboration with Accelerated Technologies, whose expertise in high-level motorcycle and snowmobile suspension tuning is recognized throughout the industry.
Through extensive back-to-back testing and rider feedback over two full seasons, we refined every riding mode until each delivered a distinct personality and a measurable improvement over the factory calibration.
As Accelerated Technologies describes it, the suspension's ability to recover correctly after an impact is "the crucial shock turnaround zone." It's one of the most important factors in keeping the skis and track connected to the trail—ultimately giving the rider greater confidence, improved traction, and complete control.
The result is a Smart-Shox system that finally performs to the full potential of its exceptional KYB hardware.
